"This page cannot be displayed"

I have a similar probablem to a lot of people that have posted here. I am
trying to access a couple of websites that I only access a couple times a
year. The sites are www.aessuccess.org and www.pheaa.org. I get "The page
cannot be displayed....Cannot find server or DNS Error..Internet Explorer ".

I know the sites are not down because I have pinged the ip and have had
others log on fine. I have also adjusted my security settings, ran Spybot,
Adaware and Norton's in Safe Mode and I even uninstalled SP 2 and try again
and I still get the error.

I have a Windows XP Pro with 128 cipher strength.
Please does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to fix this.

Try going to the website by ip address(ping the site in a command window to
get the ip). If you can get there by ip and not dns and it's only these two
sites then it sounds like a dns problem on the isps end.

I was able to get into the Pheaa site with the ip but I still not able to get
into the aessuccess.org site. I received the message "Ping request could not
find host aessuccess.org. Pleace check the name and try again" I also tried
another .org and was unable to get in. It looks like I am not able to get
into only certain .org's. Other people are able to access the aessuccess site
so I do not believe that it is a dns problem on the isp end.

If you're "blocked" out of .org websites and your settings in ie popup
blocker or similar aren't blocking you, then that would lean me towards a
dns registry problem. When I did tech support for comcast this happened
quite a bit. We never found what keys in the registry had the prob and never
came up with a fix other than formatting. If this is your problem there may
a fix, but I don't know what is it, sorry.

Thanks for the info Phil. What do you mean by formatting? Is that something I
should or could do?

You could do it, but if you're a newbie, you might want to get someone to
help you with it that's done it before. Formatting means to wipe the drive
clean, wiping out all data, and then reinstall xp on a fresh drive. If you
have a recovery cd then they are even easier to use to format. This type of
cd will take your computer back to the day you bought it. Pop in the
recovery cd and follow the on-screen instructions. Make sure to backup your
personal stuff you want to save to a cd first.

Duh for me. I have done that before. I think I will wait and see if anyone
else has any idea's before I do that. I have so much stuff on my pc that it
takes a lot of time to do. Thanks Phil.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

I'm a late comer here. I didn't see mentioned the word firewall. You may
have your firewall set to block this type of site. I had that problem and
found that by adjusting my site access permissions solved that problem.

Reformatting is the most extreme solution and not to be undertaken lightly.
It opens you up to possible data loss and a lot of time consuming work.

If you have set up your hard drive(s) to have more than one logical drive
you could save your data to a different logical drive. In any case if you
reinstall windows you should do it to a logical drive (C:\) that you reserve
only for you OS.

Needles to say, at one time or another all of us power users have run into
similar problems.

Good luck. Let us know how it come out.

Thanks Phil for your information.

Bullwinkle-About the firewall I do/did have a firewall through my DSL
connection. I haven't been in there since I downloaded the SP 2 and it is
definately different in there. I have a feeling that is where my problem lies
but I am not sure how to adjust the firewall to allow access to the sites I
am having a problem with.

Do you think I need to adjust the Advanced Setting to anything under the
services tab or should I add an exception or do I leave it alone.

Any info would be appreciated.
