This is driving me nuts

I have a 'system freezing' prohblem when trying to use any software to burn
DVD's or SVCD. I can burn video imported from my DV camcorder but cannot
burn
downloaded videos saved on the hard drive be they AVI or MPEG. I can burn
data with no problems. As soon as it gets into the encoding phase the system
freezes. I have tried a complete re-format and re-install of windows XP Pro
and SP2 but it still happens.I have a 2.8 AMD processor with 1024RAM and an
ATI Radeon 128meg video card. Using Fat32 I have a 80g Seagate HD with loads
of space(C: &D:). I have tried Ulead 7. Nero 7 and AVS Video convertor. Same
result on all. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks.

Hi Alan

Please tell me you've found a solution to this problem? I've just posted a
similar request, having follwed the same sort of procedures as you - also
getting nowhere.

I'd be very interested in knowing if you've managed to resolve this issue -
incidentally my system spec is almost identical to yours - do you think there
might be some conflict between XP-SP2 and Athlon 2800+?

At a complete loss. I have just tried a new HD with just XP Pro no SP2 and
no other software other than ULead. Still freezes on encoding. Therefore not
a software or driver conflict it has to be the CPU or motherboard. I posted
this on another newsgroup and a guy there said he had a similar prob with
AMD CPU not being able to cope and overheating causing freezing of system.
Looks like another upgrade! Can anyone quote a modest system processor that
does cope with burningDVD video?

Go into CMOS Advanced Cipset Setup and
change the frequency of your CPU to a lower setting. Try about 1230mhz to
begin with. Reboot and try to burn. Its worked for me. Anyone know why?
