This is an interesting Problem... Intermittant freezing of a PC Based USB Mouse in XP/2000

Here's what I know about this one so far and keep in mind this is
second hand info.

Appearently USB mice on Windows XP and 2000 have a habit of freezing
until unplugged, then when plugged in again they work correctly. This
has happened even on systems fresh out of the box, and with fully
updated drivers, As odd as that is. Any insight would be highly
appreciated.

Same problem here with a Microsoft USB joystick. Tried the same as you, but
regularly the problem reappeared. Until I tried another USB connector. Win
2000 detected new hardware, reinstalled it, and problems were gone.
Definitively. Don't ask me why...

In the Device Manager see if you can disable the USB error
correction.I've found no use for it and it can cause problems.
