This group will send you Sween Virus

Word to the wise. I began getting about 100 emails a day
with the W32.Swen.A@mm Virus immediately after posting
here. Last night I posted using an email address I use
only to test the waters for spam. By this morning I was
getting the Swen virus sent to it but not any of the other
test email addesses I have. Do not post your address here
unless you want this virus sent to you 100 times a day. I
am turning the information over to people I know at the
FBI to catch the culprit and also to my attorney as well
for a possible class action against the owners of this
list. Microsoft supports this site rather than providing
free live support, and they have a responsibility to stop
the harvesting of email addresses here. People damaged by
the Swen Virus should have a recourse against the owners
of this newsgroup.

There is no possible way to stop the harvesting of addresses from a web
site -- which this is not. It's a newsgroup which happens to have a web
site interface in addition to the more traditional methods to accessing
news. The real point here is that if you can read the articles, you can
harvest email addresses -- or anything else that suits your fancy -- from
them. Those with a small bit of programming skill can do so massively.

The concept of the "owners" of a newsgroup raises interesting legal
questions that could take years to resolve. Getting a useful response
from the FBI will most likely take much longer than that.
 
An how would YOU prevent people such as yourself from PUBLICLY posting
their E-MAIL address?

learn before spew the babble!

If you would just read these messages and explore the group
before posting, you would learn how this happens.
 
i know you didn't ask me and I would never do this to step on someone elses
thunder. But, if you are using O.E. here it is.

On the Menu bar click Tools > Accounts... > News tab > Properties button >
change email address(gotta have teh @ sign dividing two bits of information.
In you email address you can place a junk email address like
(e-mail address removed) or you can do that and add to it like
(e-mail address removed) or a bogus like (e-mail address removed) . You actually get
ideas from looking at others ideas. There are real neat ideas these people
come up with.

Hi Bruce, for those non Techie types such as myself how can one post to a
news group without showing your E-mail Addy, being post M.E/LBP Cerebral
Event remembering how to do simple stuff can get difficult when I'm in pain
much of the time so any pointers would be useful, I can then print it out &
pass it on to other fellow sufferers I counsel.
Do remember not everyone on the net is of an age where just working a PC
comes easy to them ( I always say I was born B.C ! <Grin>), and those like
our members may have infirmities of mind or body which further hamper their
access.
I / we have usually found Techies to be free with there time in helping so
my thanks in anticipation.
P.S I Hate the 'Sue-Everybugger' culture, it's spreading here in the UK
worse than most viruses, Whatever happened to being responsible for your own
actions / contributory negligence?

Thanks don will give it a go & stop getting sent SWEN, have only just
learned to set up Message Rules for deleting this sort of Sh..! at my ISP's
server !
With Over 1.4 Million Computers infected by last friday there must be people
opening the rubbish but I just resent having had to PAY to download it!
