this file does not have a program associated

I get this message in 2007 Word. When I e-mail doument , this message
appears when the person I send it to tries to open.

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this
action. Create an association in the folder options control panel".
 
The person to whom you are sending the document does not have either Word
2007 or the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack installed and consequently can't
handle the .docx document you are sending. You need to resave the document
in Word 97-2003 format.

Most bizarre. I can only guess that your ISP must be destroying it with
overactive AV messing it up. Does it still have the .doc extension when it
arrives the other end?

Can you send a sample document attached to an email to me to take a look?
