I recently got a ThinkPad that lacks a parallel printer port, so I
bought a USB adapter cable so that I could continue to use my old
printer. This usually starts off OK, but will stop after printing one
or more documents and I get the error message "This document failed to
print". I can get round it by unplugging and replugging the USB plug,
after which the unprinted documents proceed to print; but there must
be a better way....?

TIA,

TIA,

These devices can be a problem. Not all of them work well as advertised. I
used a Belkin device for about 4 years without too much problem with XP
until I went to Vista operating system. Had many shutdown issues then. No
driver update available. Would work some times and not others. Finally
(thankfully) my portable printer broke and I was able to purchase a USB one.

Ensure that the USB settings are not enabled to power off devices. (Device
Management, Universal Serial Bus controllers, right click on each item below
that heading and check for power options.) Otherwise I can not help.

Thanks, I'll check that.
