Hello all. I will start from the beginning.

I previously had a dual boot of win XP pro & Home Edition on m
HD.One day my comp was on idle and no one was using it when it all o
a sudden restarted on it's own and then came to the dual-boot option
then it was all of a sudde

Windows XP Home Editio
Windows XP Home Editio

Instead of

Windows XP Pro
Windows XP Home Editio

So I thought maybe the Hard drive is messed up, so I bought anothe
hard drive to install windows on it. When I install the brand ne
hard drive, I come to the "Format Drive" in otder t
install windows on a parition and it cannot complete the process, i
tells me the disk may be damaged and to check SCSI or something t
see if it is off. One some occasions it will format the parition wit
FAT32 file system, but then it says "COMputer has worke
maintenance and will restart in 15 secs" And it does so, then
will get error when I reture to the scree

Oh and by the way, same thing happens with another brand new har
drive. IM lost! Help.

Thank you for your tim

Does the computer do this if ONLY the new hdd is installed? Did you
install SATA drivers when prompted during the XP install?

|Im not sure what ya mean by SATA drivers?

I was referring to the install routine. Early in the install there is
a point where you are asked to press f6 and insert floppy to install
SATA, SCSI, RAID, etc.
Some boards require SATA drivers to access the drive, some do not.
Read your motherboard manual.
