I advise anyone who posts here NOT to use their real
email address. I posted here twice a few weeks ago and
have been deluged with spam ever since - how do I know
it's from here? I have my own domain name and created a
custom 'msieforum@...' email address. This formerly non-
existent email address has been getting SLAMMED non-stop
with spam ever since.

Ironic, since Microsoft claims to be leading the fight
against spam...

Where did you read or hear this? Have a URL? Newspaper reference?

I didn't post my messages with just *any* newsgroup. The
URL I posted messages at started with
this: "http://support.microsoft.com/..." This is not the
type of support I need - especially from Microsoft.

-----Original Message-----
Of course you realize that these newsgroups get
distributed all over thousands Usenet news servers world-
wide and not just on msnews.microsoft.com..... Not

I guess you did not understand Jon's post. Those newsgroups *are*
distributed/propagated to thousands of news servers. By the way, if you
use Google Group search you will find your post there in a little while.
Spammers are even writing scripts to look in Google Groups and scavenging
email addies from many newsgroups archived there. They have found out that
newsgroups such as the MS ones have addresses that very naive people are
using.

For more simply go to Google's news site and do a search
for "Microsoft fights spam".

Hey Socrates,

Here's a little trick for you, the next time you're in the Senate, or
hanging out at the Acropolis that'll come in handy...

If you have a really long url to post.... put in <, then paste the long url,
then put a closing > after it.... the < > will encapsulate the url link
(maintaining its integrity, instead of cleaving off at the wrap-around
point, like yours did. Looks like maybe 'Yokenny' fixed it, when he replied.

Or, consider converting a really big monster url to something small, via
www.tinyurl.com

(As for me, I prefer the encapsulation method, because I that way you still
get some idea of where the link will take you. Some people use tinyurl.com
to spread malicious links - as a wolf in sheep's clothing)

Hey Dragonteeth I can do that with exceptionally long URLs and change my encoding back to the type that doesn't start the world on fire like the type I am using now does? Thanks if so.

Some newsreaders do not wrap with MIME quoted-printable. If you use MIME
None then it still permits long line posting and will not start a flame war.

Yea, I did fix the long URL line.
