A PC I'm thinking of purchasing comes in XP Professional already
installed. Does that include Word and Excel?

Thank you

No, unless the one selling you the computer paid for the software and
wants to give it or include it in the sale. Office applications have
never been included with Windows operating systems, they will only be
included if you pay for them. Sometimes pc manufacturers have
promotions and Office can be purchased at reduced prices if it is
purchased with the computer.

No (not unless they tell you it does).

Neither Windows XP, nor any other version of Windows, has ever
included Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, or any other significant
application software. Such programs have to be bought, either by
themselves or as part of Microsoft Office.

If your previous computer, running an older version of Windows, came
with Word and Excel, it was because the vendor who sold it bundled
them as part of the package he sold you, not because that version of
Windows came with them. Some, but not all, vendors do the same with
Windows XP.

I thought it would be included in the specs, but wanted to be sure.
Thank you both for your reply!

That's similar to asking, "I am about to purchase a new home, does that come
with furniture?"

It might - but the items actually being two different products makes it hard
to determine. If you want o know if the computer comes with some Microsoft
Office products - ask the seller.

Microsoft Windows XP is an Operating System.
Microsoft Word (and Excel) are part of an Office suite... Which can be
bought in individual parts (word processor and spreadsheet in this case.)

They are/always have been - sold seperately. If you get a system with both,
it is because someone other than Microsoft packaged them together.
