hi,
i have a simple question, i just ordered a new computer, and ill have a
temperary card the 9000 pro in it, untill the 9600xt comes out.
My question is does the new catylist drivers from ati work with third-Party
companies's cards. the 9000 pro is from tyan, and 9600xt will be from
sapphire. it seems like the other companies dont have the most up to date
drivers all the time. it would be just more simple for me to downlaod the
drivers from ati.

Use the ATI drivers.

The drivers work with OEM Radeon cards, SP, but not necessarily with
mobility chips (although, apparently the Omega drivers do). Additional
software (MMC etc.) may or may not work with your card - check the
manufacturer's site.

No matter who made the card (using ATI chips), they would all use the same
drivers from ATI.
Also several different brands of ATI card are manufactured by the same
company.
I've heard that Sapphire manufactures cards for several different companies.

You're exactly right, Patrick. For desktop systems people should stick with
the ATi drivers (just like Nvidia and their drivers).

i own an HP notebook with the i320m graphics chip that uses shared memory.
just as an experiment, i tried the desktop drivers from ATi and they didn't
work. HP/Compaq provides the drivers, which are quite stable by the way.
That's one reason why best to purchase a laptop from a reputable vendor.
