In the specs for current or past model Thinkpads, there is often a column
stating whether a particular model number is a Workhorse, or Global.

For example, go to page 11 of this PDF:

ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitute/psref/tabook.pdf

Amongst the models of X60s shown on that page, all but one are marked with a
W, for Workhorse. Three of them are also marked as G, for Global.

You can also see that column in specs for old Thinkpads:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitute/psref/tawbook.pdf
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitute/psref/trwbook.pdf
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitute/psref/twbook.pdf

Does anybody know what Workstation or Global means?

Thanks

Workhorse: Means the specific model will be available unchanged for a
minimum of two years.

Global: Means that the specific model will be available unchanged through
Lenovo sales regardless of market, e.g. US, EU, etc. I.e. you can purchase
the exact same model laptop for your personnel in Sydney, New York and
London.

Exact same keyboard and power lead? Is there much of a demand for that?

Suppose you're in Japan, don't you still want an english
keyboard and an adapter you can use when you get home?

So those Global models all have UK keyboards and power cords? Thanks for
explaining it to me. That's really great to know.

Keyboard and AC cord will be country/area specific. All other hardware (CPU,
HD, OS, memory, display, optical drive, etc.) will be the same no matter
where purchased.

Yes, there's quite a demand for them.

It's more a case of multi-national companies having a (mostly) uniform
laptop to be used throughout the company.
