Are their programs or services which can be disabled that can cool
down the cpu or speed up performance for XP HOME SP2?

thanks

the cpu is designed/engineered
to process lots of data and
will get hot by design.

in my opinion a concern with a cpu
in overdrive is that it is too busy
doing other things, rather than
doing what its user needs it to do.

in essence the user is no longer
in control of his/her computer.

however, if the cpu does overheat
i.e., beyond its tolerance levels, then
it is engineered to shut down
the system and cool down.

a. you might want to ensure
you have enough air flow
running through your computer.

a1. you can open a side panel if
it is a desktop you are referring
to. then you can direct a fan into
the inside "or" buy specialty fans
that install inside the computer.

b. you might also want to
open the task manager and
monitor the processes that
are taking priority and causing
your cpu to go into overdrive.

b1. then you can disable or remove
those programs causing your grief.

b1a. in this case, either your computer is
calculating space shuttle flight plans
or

b1b. maybe a program or several programs
are constantly scanning your system, like
antivirals, indexers, etc...

b1c. you can go to admin tools, services
and disable indexing and all your antivirals
to see if this relieves your cpu.

are you sure you are having a
problem with the cpu or might
the concern actually be with
the harddrive constantly
reading and writing?
