i just downloaded microsoft antispyware because i'm
pretty sure i have spyware. however,it's very slow to
load and when i try to run the scan, nothing appears to
happen. if i schedule the scan in advance it does work
and has told me there are two threats. it says 'waiting
for your input, take action now!' but when i click on
that there is absolutely nothing else, just the blank
blue pattern background.

can anyone help me with why this might not be working and
what i could do about it?

Have you selected Spyware Scan Options. You need to select an option! If
you select Full System Scan you may need to select "Select" for Drives
and Folders as well as place a check before the Option. It pulls up a
list of your Drives and Partitions and is easy to overlook! Overlooking
this option can mean you think it has scanned your total system but in
reality it has only looked at your system drive/ partition.

Hope this helps.

Have you tried reinstalling it? i would uninstall it,
reboot, then reinstall it, reboot, then try the software.

okay, i uninstalled it, rebooted, reinstalled it,
rebooted and then tried using it again. it hasn't made
any difference, it seems. it still doesn't run the scan
unless i schedule it in advance and then when it has
finished and says it has detected a threat, it doesn't
let me do anything about it. i still get the 'waiting for
your input, take action now' link and when i click it, it
still changes to a blank background.

i have zonealarm and norton antivirus. could either of
these be mucking something up?

i can look at the scan history details, which says the
detected threat is 'Little Witch FTP server Trojan FTP'.

the 'more information' link next to that is not helpful
because when i click it it says 'The requested
information is not currently available'.

for this threat it says 'Status: Ignored'. i don't want
it to be ignored, i want to get rid of it.

Hi TJ,

I just did a Google for your 'Little Witch' and she can be a busy gal.

Try this and let us know if it works: Boot into Safe Mode (F8) at startup;
Empty your temporary files AND your Temporary Internet Files C:\Documents
and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files folder ;
Run the scan while in safe mode;
If you are running SP2, open IE--->Tools--->Manage Add-ons, and uncheck any
BHO's that you don't recognize.
