Hi Nina--
I should have of course stated up front where it happened. My bad. Yes it
was in WMP 11 on Vista (one of those three previous builds) which I have
been using in XP since available on it and Vista since the beta gave birth.
Strange it was an one isolated old CD--Carol King and I imagine you know how
far back she goes--why I'm not sure. It has never happend playing any of
the same tunes on Ipod's software interface on XP or Vista any build
(IMusic) I rip the WMP to IPOD either directly from WMP when you plug in
IPOD if WMP has something the IMusic software collection (IPOD playlist not
their store which is IMusic) doesn't yet have on it, or if I rip while the
IPOD is charging or plugged in I'll rip directly to the IPOD.
Yes, Carol King was performing before I was born. Where did you get the
Carol King music if you don't mind my asking? Did you get any other
music from the same source and does it behave similarly? It appears not
from what you say so far. How odd. Right now it sounds like OS is not
a factor. You don't have problems with iTunes or whatever Apple
software you might use on Windows with your iPod. Hopefully it was
problems they have worked out of the WMP11 already. But we shall see.
Nina also I'd be interested in your comment on this because when I've said
it directly to any softie--I made the comment in one of the last MCE chats
but not infrequently my exchanges with them get edited out for the archived
versions of the chats that the only reason that MCE has been made not to
join a domain was for DRM considerations.
Pardon my bias, I have been known to be a bit of an extremist when it
comes to things like this, but I think it is terrible that they
censor... I mean 'edit' out any of your comments in archived chats like
that. But I suppose that is better left for another conversation.
That aside, I knew that MCE could not join a domain just like XP Home.
Anything I had ever read or heard about it from MS was that the reason
was because it was an OS meant for multimedia use at home. Honestly, I
never thought much about it, because ever since I found out about all of
the associated costs and DRM in MCE, I knew MCE was not for me. (We run
a Fedora Core 5 system with MythTV on it here so we don't have to
bother with the costs or buggy DRM conditions in MCE, Tivo, or most
commercial DVR systems.) But what you and various MVPs say makes
perfect sense about MCE made not to join a domain because of the DRM
restrictions. Hmmm, that's one to look into more. It's one thing for
MS to impose these restrictions for non-commercial use, but it could
potentially be a much bigger problem for them if they started imposing
their flawed DRM restrictions on businesses which could be losing money
over it.
LOL, is there enough TLAs in here for ya? ;P
That's not an original observation with me, because I've seen a lot of MVPs
make the same comment on their blogs and I believe it's true.
The MCE team bristlled and not suprisingly blew it off as not accurate. But
as much of the time, MSFT is quick to deny their real intentions.
So incredibly true!
There is no reason at all technically they can't make MCE join a domain and
people complain about it all the time and they diminish it's ability.
There is a disturbing trend of MSFT to compromise the quality of its
software based on outside "political" or economic influecences
Again very true. I've given my initial opinion on this above.
DRM's impact
The Vista EULA still causing hardship for families
The SPP Kill Switch which will not be accurate and will be in effect a loose
cannon--I think it's going to take litigation to kill the kill switch and
the legal hit squads are using drawing up briefs to do this now.
CH
I found another article which even though is a bit old (MS has loosened
Vista transfer restrictions in the EULA after this article was written)
I found quite informative about other restrictions in the Vista EULA:
http://www.securityfocus.com/columnists/420
It brings up valid testing and security concerns about limitations in
the Vista EULA.
I also have noticed how difficult it is for posters on in this newsgroup
to leave politics out of the discussion. It almost seems to me that MS
would make a picture perfect politician (just enough corruption, just
enough propaganda) and that that probably contributes to why some
posters have difficulty leaving politics out.
