Firstly my apologies for the non-tech. speak.

Yesterday my system (running XP) started running awry - black screen,
shutting down and when I started it up again it had 90 something processes
running and the hard disk continually "working hard" (rattling away).

I have NAV installed and it was up to date, so I was expecting it wasn't a
virus, but who can tell?

When I looked at the processes, four "programs" were pretty busy, even
though I had technically nothing open:
WZQKPKK.EXE, WFXMOD32.EXE; WFXCTL32.EXE adn WFXSWTCH.EXE.

Two messages are of concern:

When I fire up my computer I get a message that says "Log & Data
Verification", Verifying database MY-PH-BK. No idea what this is all about,
but I figured maybe it was my phone book, which I don't have.

Another message that has been appearing while i've been starting up my
computer over recent weeks, says:
SERVER BUSY This action cannot be completed because the other program is
busy. Choose "Switch To" to activate the busy program and correct the
problem. There are three buttons, Switch To, Retry and Cancel (but cancel is
greyed out!). If I Switch To the error message goes away, but I have no idea
what I've just done!

Today I have upgraded Norton Anti Virus to Norton Internet Security, and
this program tells me that "someone" called ASPNET is logged on to my
computer! Never heard of this! Can I delete this user? Also, I have an
Administrator as well as an AdminUser - can I eliminate one of these two?

I found the message at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;827072&Product=winxp
but it doesn't make sense to me... should I follow the instructions?

Would appreciate some feedback.

Thanks

Those sound like viruses or malware to me. Did you do a full AV scan after
running Live Update? Did you try a second opinion at
http://housecall.antivirus.com or similar?

Download & install the latest versions of Spybot and Adaware...update them &
run full scans, too. See "Dealing with Unwanted Malware, Parasites,
Toolbars and Search Engines" at http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Before you do anything, back up your data! (do this regularly anyway).

If you run msconfig (after scanning everything with AV and Spybot/Adaware)
what's checked in your startup tab?

I've seen that happen on many 2k/XP PCs - may not be related.

Yes, but that's a normal thing if you've installed the .net framework update
it from windows update...
Also, I
have an Administrator as well as an AdminUser - can I eliminate one
of these two?

I've never seen this happen on its own - does this look different than it
used to?

Not absolutely necessary....

No info on this one
WZQKPKK.EXE

These others WFXMOD32.EXE; WFXCTL32.EXE adn WFXSWTCH.EXE
appear to be related to windows and symantec's FAX program's
if you don't use FAX uninstall symantec's and disable 'windows fax' in admin
tools services.

Ah, I wasn't reading closely enough - they do sound like Winfax (ugh) :-)
