Thermal paste on athlon xp?

You know those amd cpu's that are ugly and have lots of bumpy bits on
top? Do you only put thermal paste on the big rectangle in the center
or do you also put it on all the tiny rectangles surrounding it too?

Just the big rectangle, that's the CPU cover.
