Greetings --

Have you downloaded and installed the WinXP-specific audio drivers
as provided by the audio controller's manufacturer?

Hi all,

I have the same problem with my sound card on my computer after I installed
new hard drive and reinstalled window xp from the manufacturer CD.

The sound card is onboard and was working perfectly before. Now, after I
reinstalled window XP, everything is working ok but the audio. When I try to
use Window Media Player a message displayed saying that: "Can't play back
the audio stream: no audio hardware is available, or the hardware is not
responding"

Error ID = 0x80040256, Remedy ID = 0x00000000

Please help me !

Thanks

Hello,

Have you installed the drivers for you sound card? They frequently need to
be installed after the OS is loaded. You should be able to download the
drivers from your OEM's site.

What do OE and OEM mean?

OE = Outlook Express but you probably meant:
OS= Operating System
OEM= Original Equipment Manufacturer.

If you have a sound card it should have come with a driver disk.
Insert that and run it and it should find and install the drivers for
you. If you don't have any disk, go to the website of the company
that made the card. Find the Support or Download section. Identify
the card you have and download the drivers for it.

Unzip or extract them to a new folder you create such as c:\soundcard.
Open up device manager, (Start/Control Panel/System/Device Manager)
find the sound devices that have yellow exclamation marks beside them.
Right click them, choose 'update driver' and when the wizard opens up
point it at your new folder, C:\soundcard.

OK?

I reinstalled my OS andit reinstalled my drivers. I have no sound. On some
of the drivers they are not enabled and will not do anything when I update
drivers. I can not even uninstall them. HELP.
