.....so you just have to learn to live without messenger
again.

upgrade to w messenger 4.7.2009 from a lower version and
all of a sudden you cant access the .net server. Dont
upgrade and lose your connection due to "security"
restrictions

Sorry Jonathon your steps just dont work...just look back
though posts.

Please go back to the drawing board. please post a decent
solution. and before you ask ..its win xp home with all
the trimmings/patches etc and its "improved networking
features" - hah! they must have been bad before.

"Upgrade" to 4.7?.....you're a full version behind- it's 5.0 now. So instead
of blaming someone who is spending hours trying to help people, why don't
you first try downloading the current version. That would be the first step
in finding a "decent solution".

There are significant changes to 5.0, including the use of UPnP....I know of
3 people (including myself) who were frustrated with the new Messenger, when
the problem was router firmware that required upgrading to fix UPnP issues
(as defined by the router manufactuer). Your inablity to troubleshoot a
problem and find a solution (which has probably already been addressed)
isn't necessarily an indication of bad programming. There may be a number of
reasons to get irratated with Microsoft products, but a lack of skill,
knowledge, or patience on your part isn't one of them.

Why not try posting the specifics of your problem and see if someone is able
(and willing) to help out.
