Hello folks,

I recently upgraded my wireless. I currently have 3
notebooks and a printer on this wireless. However, one of
the XP Professional notebooks keeps on popping a "Windows-
System Error: There's an IP address conflict with another
system on the network". It pops it at the lower right
part of the screen as little bubble-message.

What is this and how may I eliminate this annoying
message? I tried a lot but I failed!

Your help is appreciated.

Start by finding out what IPAs your devices are using. Under
W9x, run WINIPCFG. Under XP, run CMD, then type into the CMD
window IPCONFIG/ALL.

And, you need to understand what entity on your LAN is giving
out IPAs. One common way is to have a router with DHCP server
enabled, and then set each device (PC or whatever) to be a
DHCP client -- that guarantees that all devices will be in the
same IPA subnet, which is needed for sharing stuff.

thank you for your prompt help.

IP config gives me the same ## for default gateway and
DHCP server. is this the one causing the conflict??

where do we take it from here??

I think I fixed it. The wireless' service software shared
the same port with DHCP so I had to change the settings.

Let see, thanks again

unfortunately, the problem remains....

Hi Andrew, the gateway and server having identical IP's
is not a problem, AS LONG AS it is one machine. To
piggyback on what Bob shared, find out what the IP's are
and if you have 2 that have the same IP then you need to
change one statically so that there won't be a conflict.
More than likely< that is the problem since you're
getting that message.

Open network connections and go to 'properties' of the
icon that represents your connection to your LAN. Scroll
down to 'internet protocol' hilite it and click
properties. Select 'use the following IP address' and
input an IP that doesn't conflict with the other two.
Hope that helps. Wayne B.

Hmmm.

First.. you must find what computer occured ip conflict.
If you cannot found that..
Use this software "IP Holder".. it help you remove ip conflict
(http://www.ipselector.com)

It prohibit IP address conflict.
I hope you this will be help you.
