Microsoft should start a campaign with the justice dept ,
to make every instance of unwanted spy/ad ware
prosecutable.

Don't expect congress to do anything meaningful. The CAN Spam act they
passed was a total joke. Too many special interest groups throwing money at
them will produce a meaningless bill.

Yes, and in addition Brian Livingston reports in his
WindowsSecrets newsletter that adware makers are
pressuring anti-adware advocates to stop listing their
programs as candidates for removal. One has even sent
letters out with the threat of a lawsuit. My contention
is that I own my computer and I decide what software
programs I want on it. I do not want unsolicited
software, Period. If I want to learn about products or
services I will look the info up myself.

Bob,
Part of the 'problem' is that many folks are just too happy to click on the
EULA. If the read the fine print several pages down, they would find that
they are giving permission for the junk to be put onto their machine.

You then get issues of just what to call it, since they allowed it in the
first place. If we can all help to educate users to be more safe, then we
would be in better shape in battling this stuff.
