I have applied a theme to my web site.
There are certain pages I want to ...ok I NEED to keep with their original
formatting or the text will be nearly unreadable.
What do I need to do to get these particular directories to NOT be affected
by the application of the theme?

Convert them to subwebs/subsites. Requires that your site is hosted on a server that has the FP
extensions and that the host allows you to have subwebs/subsites.

With your web opened in FP, go to the page(s) you do not want the theme applied to then; Format | Theme and select Selected Page and No Theme...ok ok ok.

that'd only be if he wanted a different theme on those pages, he could have none-theme within the same web though right?

I think both of your answers have merit.
I have the pages that I have created on my own. I also have sets of pages
that were created elsewhere and when MY theme is applied the text gets
changed and is very difficult to read.
I could take those folders and put them in a separate web so I can still
create new pages and change the theme on the main site without having to
worry about these pages being affected.
For now going to each page and choosing No Theme is OK...but if this grows
the way I think it will I don't want to have to go into 50 - 100 pages and
have to choose No Theme and save each one.
If anyone gets any other good brainstorms let me know.

Shouldn't the icon change when I create a subweb?
All that gets changed as far as I can see is the addition of a new
index.html page.
Should I convert the folder to a web?

Yes, you have to select Convert to Web / Site.

The problem with selecting individual pages is that at some point you may want to set all pages in
the site to have the default theme or shared border, and then find that you have manually go thru
all pages that have been disable to set them back to using the web/site default. This becomes a
issue as the site grows.
