theme and sound problems

My desktop theme and sound setting revert to the default evertime I turn my
computer on. The wallpaper I chose doesn't change though. The windows and
button revert back to XP style (which I find hideous) from Classic stlye.
The sounds that I found annoying and told not to play come back.
Please (!) does anyone know how to fix this? I've looked all over the net
and haven't found any answers.

Under some circumstances, XP won't save user settings. MVP Doug Knox has a
script that fixes this problem in many (not all) cases. Trying the file
will cause no harm but there's a chance that it will fix the problem that
you're having. Worse case scenario is that there will be no change from
where you're at now.

Directions for using the file are on that web page. Be sure to log off/log
on for changes to take effect.
