If you are new to PCs you will not need the advanced networking stuff in
Business or Ultimate. You should most probably be fine with Home Premium,
as will most other people.

No offense to anyone, but the Windows Vista upgrade advisor does not seem to
be the tool for this particular OP situation. The Upgrade Advisor is a
relative tool as well, that I've found to be frequently dead wrong and full
of incorrect advice on multiple pcs of all types. I've been running Vista
builds since the delivery room of the Beta, and on many machines the upgrade
advisor said you needed this or that to run Vista which was simply what the
federal government would call an 18USC 1001 false statement if MSFT's VP and
general counsel Brad Smith made it to a government agent. I somehow think
Brad Smith is not involved in the nuts and bolts of the Upgrade Advisor--at
least from what I read in the NYT article on Ballmer yesterday,

The more I run the Upgrade Advisor on more pcs, the more ridiculously it
performs.

However you seemed to ask what editions of Vista offer what features and how
you can upgrde your Vista to include them, and the following refs should
help:

Yes - if you require the Media Center capability then you chose the
wrong version and probably wanted Home Premium.
In which case contact Dell and plead your case with them since they
are the one you are buying the product through and the upgrade.

I learned long ago that I grow into my software. If I only bought today
what I know how to use today I would still be writing with edlin.

How very true :-)

It applies to hardware too!
