I have no trouble running an Access MDB created by Access 2003 in Access
2002-2003 format under Access 2002. However, the "Access 2002-2003 format"
only applies to the MDB, the MDE is not backward compatible.
Like you, I can open the MDE database with Access 2002, but get the
"corrupt" message when I try to edit a control on a form, or to enter a
blank control on a data entry form. That seems an "ungracious" way to handle
the situation, but it appears that is how it works. In fact, when I close
the MsgBox, another pops right up in its place, so I have to use the
three-finger salute (ctl-alt-del) to bring up task manager to close Access
2002.
And, according to Office Update, both Access 2002 and 2003 are up to date
with Service Packs and patches on my machine.

I recently converted a MS Access database from 2000 to 2002-2003. Then I
made an .mde file from this so others could use it. Both work fine on my
machine which is running Access 2003. However, when others who have Access
2002 try and use the .mde or the .mdb file, none of the controls to open
forms work. Instead they get the message listed above about visual basic
for applications in the database being corrupted, but if that was true,
wouldn't it not work on my machine as well? I have checked the jet database
files and we all have the same ones. I am not that experienced in code, I
build the database without ever messing with code directly. Any help is
appreciated.
