Ok - so i just bought Vista Ultimate 64bit OEM DVD. It should arrive tomorrow... along with my pot of UV paint that i am going to have some fun with.

I have been looking at some of the features you get with Ultimate, and one of them stands out as being really impressive.

This is DreamScene.

The ability to get rid of a static desktop wallpaper and have full 1080p High-Def video there instead :)

There is a nice video of this feature towards the end of this clip

5-10% CPU utilisation shouldn't be too bad, and you can turn it off with one click when you need the extra power.

Looks like it will be good fun.

Is there anything you guys are looking forward to using in Vista?
 
Windows flip and flip 3d looks quite smart. Still not 100% convinced that most of it is really necessary.
I still have the thought that the OS should be taking up as little machine resource as possible and concentrate all machine power to the applications you are running.
But hey, it all looks vey nice.

And yes I know its all about the "user experience" so I'm sure people will love it.

It's just that XP is the best OS Bill Gates has released for some time. Probably since 3.1 :)

Need to get hands on with it to make a true judgement.

Also from the looks of it there are a lot of features from 'Cough Cough' OSX i.e. Widgets re-labelled as 'Gadgets'.

They do say that copying is a form of flattery :D

Nope - won't be using it until XP becomes unsupported or the programs I need won't run on it - XP does all I need for what I do :thumb:

i'm with Ady and V_R, XP is more than adequate for now so i'll only buy vista if i have to

do keep us posted on how you get on with it though
 
Oh don't get me wrong, XP is more than adequate.

But i have been using it for 5 years and i think it's time for change :)

If Vista turns out to be a pile of rubbish, i'll change back :)
 
Vista does look nice, very nice in fact. But DRM is the one thing that puts me off it. The more i read about it, the more MS seem determinded to stop you doing something....

I didn't read your "articles" V_R, I have probable read them anyway, but, can I just say that it is not MS that is "determined" to restrict how and what you view, nay, it is the "industry" that surrounds this "market" that is the culprit. MS are just suckin up to em all. As for "protecting" their "property" they can do what they like ... you don't own your OS.

Can I remind you all that the Hardware to "restrict" certain criteria has been implemented for a few years ... the OS (Vista) is just now able to use it.

Also, Vista "sales" will be primarily from new PCs and not from us up-graders ... Joe blogs in the street will not have much choice in what OS they can use.

Linux has all the bells-n-whistles that Vista is touting as "new" for some time ... plus, has had the added bonus of a decent HD filing system, and a choice too, that MS dropped from Vista. Linux is more "secure" than any MS OS.



Sad to say ... I will be buying a copy of Vista as soon as funds are available ... just to keep my hand in, you understand. ;)
 
Not my articles Mucks, i am just passing on what i have read elsewhere....

At the end of the day, i am happy with XP, and it does what i want it to do without any problems.

Same here, I'm planning to keep XP on my main machine for a good while - but I'd like a copy of Vista just to play around with. Don't think I'll go rushing to buy one though.
 
Well - up and running and found some leaked video drivers to allow me to run Aero.

So far? Quite impressed. Looks the part!
 
Agree with the majority here, I am however very impressed with the Mac OS. Presently playing around with Ubuntu ;)

I value my data and files more than the OS, I had continued using W2K for sometime after XP was released and plan to do same with Vista, maybe I simply move on to Mac OS and Linux and altogether dump MS :D
