Hi guys.

On visiting a local wine bar I noticed that the individual staff had
to sign on in order to process your order. The idea is that hey can
trace which member off staff served which customer. BUT

They have finger print recognition. They place there finger ona
glowing red pad. I live in the uk and I was wondering how to get this
stuff complete with software.

Any help on this.

TIA Desmond.

I don't think such devices are particularly unique. There are a bunch of
different kinds here.

There are articles on optical vs capacitance fingerprint recognition.

There are numerous USB fingerprint recognition devices; MS's has been
available since 2004. Prices for MS & Sony and others about $50 US.

MS does *not* promote their device as a security measure, and a hacker
cracked it for a Black Hat Conference in 2006 where he presented his
paper and was a speaker.

MS promotes their device as a 'convenience' not to be trusted with
sensitive data.

What if the staff cut his/her finger? What if the reader's surface was
damaged? :)

I just wanted to know where I could get this. I stated UK not US. Not
interested in security. It is just a helpful way of getting people
checked in for a private function.

Thanks Paul the link is good. I live in the UK so I use Amazon.co.uk.
Not interested in security problems. Have no idea about optical and
capacitance systems though.- Hide quoted text -

I read sometime ago in one of the many pc mags that a gummy bear was
squeezed between the thumb and forefinger, then placed on a biometric
fingerprint scanner and it allowed access.
