If you want a good antispyware product then get Sunbelt's
CounterSpy. Both MSAS and CounterSpy started from the Giant
code but CounterSpy benefits from both Sunbelt's and
Microsoft's (through 2007) signatures/development:
http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2004/dec04/1217statement.asp
A lot of people assumed they were the same, but they're not.
Counterspy scans for more objects and is just a better
product for $20. The same is true on the enterprise spyware
solution side. MS has been vague and very unsupportive
about what they're going to deliver on this end. We have
both select and enterprise agreements with MS and we're
tired of waiting for an answer from them (maybe first half
of 2006?). We can get Counterspy Enterprise @ $5.20 a seat
(for 3700 clients) and they will get our business when the
new client with real-time protection is released in the
next few weeks. Check the press and the recent reviews,
Counterspy is emerging as the leader. Disclaimer: I have no
vested interest in, nor do I work for any of the companies
talked about here. I'm just another IT guy who's been
fighting this war in the trenches.
