Why does my system sometimes hangs in the first BIOS
initializing and says that there's no keyboard or it's a
bad connection, while there is - in fact, I even power-up
the system via keyboard and do the ctrl-alt-del to reset
when it hangs!

This also happens to my friend who has an older AT-baby
motherboard with AMD K6 from 1999. After reboot
everything turns great and there's no problem.
What causes the system to 'miss' the keyboard?

Thanks very much.

What is the exact reported error?

Well, just like said "no keyboard present or a bad
keyboard connection" - something like that. I have an
option to continue and press F1 (interesting since my
keyboard is "absent" ;) ) or ctrl-alt-del.
The keyboard and connections are totally OK... I get that
message rarely, while my friend gets it about once a
month.

Thanks.

I can think of a couple of possibilities... is something resting on a key,
or is there a key on your kb that sticks *maybe something got spilled on it
or something)? I occasionally get a kb error on startup if something from
the stack of notes/books etc around it slips onto it.
Also, if the kb is USB, and you have an older BIOS, it might not recognise
it as being there. It would work when you get to Windows as that uses the
HID driver for USB keyboards.

Thanks for the reply, I will say that to him. As for me,
I don't know... maybe I did press some buttons with... -
something-. :)
