I am the only user on a stand-alone PC. PII 300, 512M,
140G Drive space running Windows 2000 Pro. I had a Primary
HD Failure recently. Office 2000 Premium was loaded on
the secondary HD. I couldn't repair the installation, or
reinstall, so I uninstalled using Add/Remove Programs.
when I attempted a new install, I got the message, "The
system administrator has set policies to prevent this
installation." I have run the MS Office Eraser Utility,
Windows installer cleanup utility, Set the reg
key "Disable MSI" to "0" under Current User and Local
Machine. I deleted "Disable MSI" in both locals. None of
these steps has worked. I saw nothing unusual
under "Administrative tools, local security policy". I've
searched the MS Knowledge Base with no successful
results. No successful results searching Google. Any
help with this problem would be greatly appreciated!

Your "administrator" didn't set any such policy. This is yet another MS
bug.. To fix the problem, simply delete the registry pertaining to M
Office. Mine was in
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\904000001e872d116bf00006799c897
and run the installer again.

I actually went through each subkey in the products key and looked a
the device ProductName to figure out what was NOT MSOffice. This ke
had no ProductName. after deleting it, i was able to install MS Office

Thanks for posting this fix. I'm running XP-SP2 and had the same problem.
Deleting this registry key in the XP registry allowed me to run the setup
program for Office 2003, which had previously been giving me the "...set
policies to prevent this install." error message.
