the strange sound of fan

my IBM thinkpad T40 has a strange sound, I do know that
when the CPU is working hard or gender a lot of heat,
the fan may be working according different strongth, but
my problem is during its running, it do not run steady
and smoothly,and the sound is irregularly sharp! is it
appropriate? where can I consultate?

If it's under warranty I'd take it back to your supplier and let them deal
with it. If not invest in a decent toolkit and open her up.
