need some help. Had a NT4 PPTP VPN up and running well.
Built a new 2000 advanced server to replace it and the VPN
is failing. Using PPTP as across 2 NAT firewalls.
Here is the basic error. When copying from the W2000
advanced server to the W2000P remote that began the
session, all is well. However copying anything but a tiny
file (like 3 words in a text file) results in an error
that says "the specified network name is no longer
available." This shows up as smb and delayed write issues
in applications across the VPN. I have set the MTU down
to as low as 1400 at both ends and turned off network
protection in NAV 8. Disabled SMB signing etc. Still the
problem occurs. I can see the lan icon and the vpn icon
flash normally for about 3 or 4 seconds then the VPN cion
drops off like it isn't paying attention. Routing tables
are default as set up by W2000 server and W2000P. In NT4
one had to play with the routing tables but I was under
the assumption in W2000 that issue was self configuring.
Keep in mind that a transfer from the server to the
workstation is fine and a tiny file back to the server is
fine too. Ping -t looks fine, times about 40ms and no
misses. Any help appreciated. running sp4 at both ends
reinstalled just to be safe.
