Hi All

I generally write code for the fun of it! I'm self taught, I would like some
guide lines to follow for a single programmer working on a single project at
a time, allot of what I have found is always aimed at a Team of
programmers.......

VB.NET/SQL/ASP.NET.... is what I play around with most of the time.

Does any one have any suggestions? Recommend reading books, links, videos,
etc....

Thanks in advance.

I think Wrox offers some decent beginner and more advanced books on .NET.

Also there are several in Books A Million that are pretty good books. Best
thing is to go there, read through several of them--skimming whats included
before buying. Then get you a member card and buy the book online--it is
much cheaper that way.

Hi Wayne,

I started just that way, and I've worked it into a successful software
development business.

I don't like the Wrox vb .net books - I did like their early asp books.

Among the better books on vb .net:
Balena, MS Press, Programming Visual Basic .Net
Troelson, Apress, vb .net and the .net platform
For database programming - Sceppa, ADO .Net, MS Press

I'll Admit some things in Wrox aren't great, but nothing in any book has
been completely great for me.
I think there are some good strengths and then some places where they missed
it.

For ASP.net ASP.NET Unleashed has been a good reference.

Again, I have seen several really good titles at Books A Million. Some that
just offer working solutions to various common tasks.

Depends on your level of experience and needs. A lot of the MS books appear
to be fluff to me, as do many computer books. Put 1500 pages in something
and then sell it for $50 and how cares about how good the content so as
always, check the book out before buying.

my last 2 cents on this topic.
