The server is not configured for transactions

Two machine peer to peer network - PC wired to hub, laptop wireless to WAP,
both running XP SP2 and fully patched.
The PC is running Windows Firewall, laptop ZoneAlarm.
trying to connect to the file shares on the PC from the laptop, get the
error message "The server is no configured for transactions" as in the
subject.
never seen this one before, can anyone help?
