I have a ppt file created in 03 but cannot open it in 07. It says "The
selected file does not appear to be a valid Microsoft Office PowerPoint file.
It might be another kind of Microsoft Office System file or a file created by
using a different program."

I know it was created in 03 b/c I created it. Has anyone come accross this?

I've not run across this particular error message. I would try first running
diagnostics in PPT 2007 (Office Button | PPT Options | Resources) and then
if that doesn't work try Home | New Slide | Reuse Slides. Opt to open a PPT
file in the Reuse Slides pane and navigate to your PPT 2003 file.

I tried both of the options. The diagnostics passed. Then I tried to do the
reuse slides option and it just said that it cannot open the selected file

Can you open other 2003 files with PPT 2007? If so, then this particular one
may be corrupt. Here is some info that may help you recover it:

Yes I can open other 03 files. I was thinking that the files in question had
gotten corrupt but I really want to know how they got corrupt. I'll try the
recovery process and let you know if it works. Thanks for your help so far!

Here's one on preventing corruption:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint/HA011168771033.aspx?pid=CH010036301033

Sometimes it just happens, but hopefully the info in that article will help
keep it to a minimum.

You might try opening your file in 2003, if you have access to it.

What I ended up doing was opening the files in 03 and repairing them. I then
re-saved them and opened them back up in 07. After they were repaired they
opened properly in 07. Thank you for your help.
