Depends on which version of Word - If prior to 2007 the first thing to do is
have a look in Tools> Options> View to make sure the box for Vertical Scroll
Bar (in the Show section) is checked.

Thank you, I do have 2007. The problem was, I couldn't find where to get to
tool options. I EVENTUALLY found it after you told me to go there. Thank you
so much!!

Good work - it's all there if you just know where to find it:-)

Ok, I found it too, but I will actually share where I found it for the sake
of others.

Word 2007

Click the infamous round Office 2007 button in upper right. Click the "Word
Options" button hiding in the lower right of the menu. Under Advanced,
scroll about halfway down under the Display heading. Check the option to
'Show vertical scroll bar'.

I have no idea how I accidentally turned it off.

I hope someone can help.....
My son slapped my keyboard and now my vertical scroll bar on one specific
internet page no loger appears. Correction, it appears as the page is
loading and then immediately disappears.
Anyone know how to get it back?

This is a browser issue, nothing to do with Word. Perhaps the Web page in
question doesn't need a scroll bar? Or often the scroll bars are made nearly
the same color as the page background--really stupid design, but there are a
lot of really stupid Web designers out there.

Would anybody PLEEEASE post where to find the Tools option in Word 2007? I
spent hours going thru the darn thing and haven't run into it yet...

I can't find the Options ANYWHERE on Word 2007 Mac Edition. PLEASE PLEASE let
me know how to find it!

Thank you!

In the Windows version, it's at the bottom of the menu you get when you
click on the Office button.

And in Word 2008 (Mac), the scroll-bar off/on switch is hidden under Word ->
Preferences -> View -> Window.

MS has been allowing users to turn this scroll bar off for years now. I've
never encountered any another application that has this "feature". Would
absolutely _love_ to hear the GUI designers explain the thinking behind it.

The phrase "Chocolate Teapot" springs to mind...
