The "Ruler" has changed to characters from inches and I cannot ch.

I am not sure how it even changed, but the rulers are displaying in what I
think is characters instead of inches. I have changed the units in the Tools
Option area to avery possible choice, yet the ruler never changes from this
characters (shown as "ch" in the style sheet.

How can I change the units in which the rulers are shown on the screen back
to inches?
