My Windows XP computer came with the Microsoft
IntelliMouse Optical version 1.0A. The mouse locks from
time to time. These freezes follow no pattern.

Does anyone know if that version 1.0A was intended to work
with Windows XP or not? If not, it could explain why the
mouse locks.

I know the current model being sold by Microsoft is
version 1.1 of the IntelliMouse, and it is for XP.

According to my computer's manufacturer, version 1.0A
should work with XP, and my problem is either a bad driver
or a bad mouse. Is the manufacturer right?

Any help would be appreciated.

I wouldn't know. But latest drivers are here...

Are you sure it's actually the mouse that's the problem, or is the computer
locking up? Can you use the keyboard after this occurs?

hey david why dont you try using a differnet mouse on the
computer and see what will happen if it continues with
the problem well that not the mouse probelm .......
if it continues with that probel you may need more
memmory for your computer or you may need a faster
processor...... there is alot iof problem there that i
can think of it may not be the mouse.....

Nickey Chetoora.....

I've just read that three times and it makes less sense each time. Why on
earth should he need "more memory or a faster processor" in a brand spanking
new system - and what, exactly, does memory and processing speed have to do
with a faulty mouse/mouse driver?
