hey you guys again...

i need a new motherboard,

im planning on getting a 64bit 3400+ and 2x512 sticks of pc3200.

i need raid too.

it will be a great help if you can fix me up with a board thankyou

harry.

Your computers not even that old harry!!

Get a couple of 74 gig WD raptors for the HDD's and some GeIL Golden Dragon RAM :)

Not sure about the mobo, i havent looked into 64 bit.

DFI Lanparty UT nf3 250gb socket 754

MSI K8N platinum socket 754

those two are the top end of the 754 socket motherboard, unless your heading for a 939 socket.

ive had an asus av8 and 3500 cpu for 4/5 months now
and now problems so far, even though it does seem to run a bit warm.
also you cant overclock much.
im very happy with them.
my only issue is with the 9800 pro, i have no end of driver trouble!!!!

Randow question:

In your sig it says

"Latest project; Thermaltake" - Should this be "Thermaltke"? [no "A"]

thankyou very much for your answers,

so if you want me to get a different CPU what socket is it, and yes i would prefer to go with the NF3 as i have been with a NF2 for quite a while, i was impressed. but what socket is that and would it support some nice pc4000, im not quite decided on what i am getting yet. keep throwing ideas at me, (not literally, as my desktop hitting me in the face would hurt)

And Chris, you heard all of this grief from my mother, well basically she told me to hand over my pc so she could take it to work, (An Athlon xp 3200+ to do work with Word ???) two weeks after christmas and i asked what i get out of it and she said a grand, plain and simple, so now basically i can do alot more than before.

p.s. dont worry about heat because of my water cooling, and unlimited space in my case :)

thanks,
harry

Oops sorry bit carried away there so i forgot, no my signature is correct; as thermaltake is the make, i just use thermaltke as a screen name as i mispelled it :)

I haven't looked at 64 bit systems much myself, but I figure I've built my last Socket A system. Next upgrade will be 64 bit.

I'd try and go for socket 939 if I were you, it will have greater longevity than socket 754.

However, if you're going with sckt 754 I think the obvious recommendation has to be the DFI board mentioned above, it looks great :)

For socket 939, I think I'd go with the Abit AV8 '3rd Eye' here's a link (first board in list) Abit AV8

For memory, Crucial Ballistix or Corsair medium range would be my choice.

I have read of people having good results with the Abit boards for socket 939, also with the DFI board for sckt 754, but, as I mentioned, I haven't done much research into this subject myself. But given the choice at the moment, I'd go for that Abit Board.

And one last thing, the MSI board mentioned above has had good reports as well, lots of people happy with it, it seems.

LCD DISPLAY, looks like i need to look into this lovely innovation :)

But that would mean i have to chose my CPU again, any ideas?, and yes the memory i have in mind is around the region you are looking.

I think im using ebuyer for the CPU, depends what kind of stuff i can get, but any way im going to keep looking

thankyou,
harry

Which CPU? Dunno, really, I'd imagine the choice will be decided by budget, whatever you can afford. But not a Sempron, please no....

I usually look at the CPU pricing and wherever that massive price jump is from good to very good, I'll go for the fastest and most expensive 'good' one. Still pricey, but not silly money.

lol!!! SEMPRON!!!! lol even the name repells me from the discusting stench of unworthy cilicon.

£160 on the CPU i think

Just looked at what i want;

AMD Athlon 64 3500 Newcastle 130nm (Socket 939) - Retail (CP-086-AM)
Available This Week Only for just £159.95 +VAT.
is that perfect or is that perfect?

enough power?? lol

And then is it worth getting pc4000, or shal i just stick with the;
Corsair 1GB DDR XMS3200C2 Pro TwinX (2x512MB) CAS2 (MY-026-CS)

There is quite a price change but match the power of the Athlon 3500??
also buying pc4000 would leave me with £100-200, and if i have a cunning hat on i might be able to get the last bit of cash into buying a nice shiny X800 :)

ultimate machine for me i think.

i'll look into the money aspect, of how much i have to spend, for the time and get back to you then,

thankyou
harry

any more suggestions will be appreciated

okay i have been looking round even more and i stumbled over these pictures

now this guy knows what hes doing, that water cooling is awesome and its perfectly what i wanted to do for a mod. He has the case i want with the side panel, and it looks GREAT! i love it so much, 1 stacker for harry please coolermaster.

The only problem is finding the right water cooling setup to look as good as that, maybe i will ask him...
