This sounds like the usual codec problem. I have written a program that
will temporarily rename them for you called would you believe "Rename
Codecs". Basically you rename codecs that are known to be a problem, then
use Movie Maker. If it solves your problem that's great. But, whether it
solves your problem or not, you must run "Rename Codecs" again to restore
all of the files to their original names.
Renaming a codec in this way makes it unavailable to Movie Maker which
has the unfortunate habit of using the first codec it finds that it believes
will do the job rather than giving you the option of choosing which codec to
use.
