Hi --
I have a Windows 2000 SP4 computer running Office 2003 SP3 and Adobe Acrobat
Pro 6.0.6. Apparently as a result of a recent update (it might have been the
Office 2007 compatibility update), this PC can no longer print to the Adobe
PDF printer or even open Acrobat.
The error message we repeatedly get is: "The procedure entry point
__crtlCMapStringW couldn't be found in msvcrt.dll", after which Acrobat
Distiller complains that it cannot initialize its JDF library.
I have reinstalled Acrobat and reapplied its six service packs (which are
not cumulative). No effect.
An sfc scan didn't show anything wrong with Windows. Nonetheless, I
reapplied SP4. After I rebooted, the problem was still there.
I sent Office off on a quest to repair itself. After crunching along for a
long time, it declared that Office had been repaired. But I still get the
error.
I just updated the machine's antivirus program and am running a full virus
scan. But it's already scanned all the critical sections of the drive and
has not reported anything wrong.
How do I get rid of this error? Where is this magical msvcrt.dll file with
the proper entry point?
Thanks,
CL
