a man with a problem!

i had recently decided to upgrade my computer. So i built it with out
any problem i took out he hard drive (which has XP home on it) i was
useing and stuck it into the newly built computer and so i started up
and found that my computer couldent find the hard drive. I had called
the mother board company and asked on of the people who worked
there had told me that there is a lock in windows XP that makes the
hard drive not show up becase it thinks it is stollen! So now that i have
a 120GB drive that wont work and i have tried every other option and
now i seek help from the people who think it is a good idea to have
that for XP home (lame) i cant get it to work some one help me!

P.S. i would think that microsoft would wise up and figure out that this
will happen to other people when they want to upgrade and that it is a
stupid idea to put this lock on XP home some people like to have a
good computer with the same information on it in a few years this is
almost enough to make people want a mac (not that i dont have one
already and that i dont think that the mac is better :P)

The motherboard company didn't have their facts right, or you may have
misunderstood them. There is no lock on the hard drive. If your version of
XP that was installed on the hard drive of your old computer is a OEM
version (It came installed with your computer when you bought it) then you
can't use it on another computer. OEM versions are licensed only to the
first computer on which they are installed. Some are BIOS locked to that
computer. That may have been what the MB company was talking about.
If your XP is a retail version, then you will have to do a repair
installation.
