The possable cause of Vista installation problems

I think I have an idea on the cause the installation problems

I found it my observation on the different ways I was trying to install it,
in that on one computer when trying to copy the whole original MS
installation DVD to HD, that I was getting a timeout error, 3 quarters into
the install.wim file, and not just one trial.
Then on my laptop with fast external USB DVD drive doing the same type of
action that 3 quarters of the way through it slowed down, almost as if it was
going to stop...

So I had a look at what the install.wim file was, and the darn thing is 2.84
GB in size, one file this big.

And it came to me, that this maybe the problem that everyone else is having,
because the file is sooooo big, the hardware/software thinks that it has
spent way to much time reading this one file, that it time's out in one of a
variety of error codes, be it '80070017' or a CRC error.

The solution would be to simply chop up this ridicusly gigantic file.

The file is a Wimage file. Better read up on it before you put the axe to
it.

So yes Colin I have read up on the theory’s for creating an imageX/WIM disc
image file and benefits for heading in this direction, but the problem still
remains.

Maybe Microsoft need to then look at how the hardware handles the CRC error
on such a big file As we have seen by number of post this is not some small
problem a small group of people are having.

Or alternatively MS need to specify the minimum requirements for the type of
DVD driver capable effectively reading these types of image files.
