"The path is too deep." Error Message

When I try to save a file on my Win2k workstation to a
shared folder on a Win2k/SP4 server I get the error
message "The path is too deep." The file is either not
saved, or is corrupt. Has anyone seen a fix for this?

Technically you can substitute a long path with the drive letter as 'subst
<drive:> <path>' or while at the end of that path, 'subst <drive:> .'.
Another exotic solution is the short file names using. It's better do not
exceed 255 (260) chars path length including the file name and/or 8 levels
of subdir tree.

I have heard rumor that this can be fixed by setting up a WINS serve
and adding the address to the TCP/IP properties on the WINS tab. I d
not have a WINS server set up, though, so I would like to know if thi
works myself before I set everything up

reviewed the information you have provided this far. My understanding of
the issue is the following:

You are receiving an error when you attempt to copy data from your Windows
2000 Professional workstation to a Windows 2000 Server share.

"The path is too deep." The file is either not saved, or is corrupt

CAUSE:
============

This is most likely going to be an issue with either your Router/Switch
configuration or the Media Type on your network adapter

RESOLUTION:
============

I would check out any Router/Switch configurations between you and the
server
I would also upgrade my network drivers
If the above steps do not work, check the Media Type on both your Network
adapter and Router/Switch to make sure they match
