I opened the prefetch folder in Windows and I told the files to open with notepad. Now all the files in that folder have the notepad icon and I'm not sure if that poses a problem. My computer does seem slower than before. I've tried restoring my computer but it doesn't change anything.
Originally the file was unrecognized on how to open the file. How do I undo this?? There is a box that is clicked that says "always open with this app" but I can't unclick it
Someone please help

Umm, the files in Prefetch are not intended to be opened by the user.
There is no purpose achieved by opening the files. These files are used
the the OS to accelerate boot and application lauching. You can delete
the *contents* of Prefetch and the OS will rebuild it over the next
several boots. The first few boot and application launches can be
noticeable slow until all needed files have been added to prefetch
again.

The paging file or virtual memory file is pagefile.sys. It also should
not be opened by the user. It's binary anyway.

Q

go to control panel/folder options
go to the files type tab and find the file...delete it and
next time you try to open this file, you will be asked to
choose a program to open with again.
