Hi

I'm trying to help out a friend.

Up until a few days ago he had no trouble viewing web pages.

But for no apparent reason IE6 now always shows "The page cannot be
displayed" notices.

I have checked he is online - he can send/receive email via OE without any
problem.

I have cleared all temp and offline internet files and cookies.

I have checked that IE6 is looking for the right connection - USB ADSL Modem

I'm stumped!

Is there a way to reinstall IE6 or is there anything else I should check.

Thanks for your time.

Happy New Year!

Ian

In IE, Tools | Internet Options | Connections,
click LAN Settings in the LAN section and toggle the box to use a proxy
server.

Thanks for your reply Frank but alas it hasn't cured it.

Im curious that you suggested the proxy server as Ive not ever seen this
used in a home environment (not that you would know where my friends PC is
located of course!).

'Tis actually a fairly long story, but one of the ways I connect is via
satellite. The satellite software likes me to use a proxy. Sometimes some
of the satellite software doesn't initialize properly and the proxy doesn't
load. Then I have to turn off the Use proxy option for IE to work. If the
satellite does later connect I have to turn the Use proxy back on or IE
quits working. Outlook Express will work in either case. The rest of the
story involves my trials at trying to fool the satellite to work in
conjunction with my network. It really doesn't want to do this, so most of
the time I have one computer connected to the satellite but not the network.
Oh, well.
