The page cannot be displayed

Recently the main body of IE pages are displaying OK, but, on the current
one I'm viewing, there is a 'The page cannot be displayed' message in a
strip along the top and the right hand column carries a whole galaxy of such
messages. What is going on?

Your Windows version is?
Are you running any sort of third-party software that installed a HOSTS file?
