My husband downloaded some file-sharing software and since
then Internet Explorer (it was version 5.01) will not
display any pages. Netscape Navigator works fine (installed
after error) and everything pings OK. I've tried
uninstalling and installing IE6 but it's just the same.

Following the advice in the Microsoft support files I have
discovered that my Rnr20.dll file says that it is file
version 4.10.2222 rather than 4.10.1998 but I don't know
what that means. I do not feel confident about trying some
of the stuff suggested in the Microsoft support files to do
with removing and re-installing TCP/IP files.

Any other ideas?

thanks

Many file-sharing programs come bundled with unwanted spyware:

http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/Darnit.htm#tshoot
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

These days most of us are recommending HijackThis to identify and assist in
the removal of these bad guys. **Post your files to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/, not here.**

NB: If you have ever downloaded HijackThis or CWShredder, it is urgent that
you upgrade to the latest versions before using them again. Due to a new
variant of the CWS Trojan, using either HijackThis or CWShredder on an
infected Win98 or WinME computer may lead to severe damage to that computer.
You must update to the very newest versions of these programs before using
either of them again, and you should get a new copy of CWShredder before
each and every use.

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.
