I just installed Microsoft Office 2003, and upgraded Outlook 2000
to Outlook 2003.

I can no longer send or receive mail. When I try, I get the
message "The operation failed. An object could not be found."
I've been to
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;312354
and tried to follow the advice there without success.
I *think* the problem is that the file pointed to in Tools |
E-mail Accounts | "Deliver new e-mail to the following location"
doesn't match the file in Control Panel | Mail | Properties |
Data files, but I've been unable to find out how to get the two
the same.

Try recreating (do not copy) your mail profile in Control Panel-> Mail->
button Show Profiles...

I had already tried that, unsuccessfully.

But I have an update on the problem. This morning when I powered
on and rebooted, it got all the mail waiting for me. So there's a
big improvement. However, all is not well. Outlook shows two
Personal Folders files, one called "Personal Folders," and the
other called "Personal Folders New." I had created the second one
a year or so ago in an attempt to solve another problem, and I've
been using that "Personal Folders New" file for a long time.

My problem now is that although I now can get and send mail, it's
using the old "Personal Folders" file, not the newer one that I
created. That means it doesn't use my contact list, filters,
signatures, etc., all of which are in "Personal Folders New."

Any advice on how I can either switch to "Personal Folders New"
(without again screwing up my ability to get and send mail) or,
probably better, import all the settings there to the old
"Personal Folders" file and get rid of "Personal Folders New"?

OK, I've just done that, and that's now fine; I had done this
umpteen times yesterday, and never made it successfully work. I'm
not sure what's different today, but I'm not complaining.

The only problem I seem to be left with is that the Address Book
in "Personal Folders New" isn't being used for mail messages,
just that in the old "Personal Folders," which is empty. Also my
signature files aren't being used, but that's easy enough to
recreate if necessary.

Any suggestions to let it use the Address Book? Thanks again.

Rightclick on the Contacts folder-> Properties-> tab Outlook Address Book.
Make sure the option "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book" is
selected

Thanks, but I don't see that choice. The only place I see the
folder listed is in the Navigation Pane, and when I right-click
there, the only choices are "Open in new window" and "Navigation
pane options."

Should I be seeing the folder elsewhere?

OK, I found I it. I clicked on it in the Navigation Pane, and
then found the Properties choice you describe. But selecting the
option "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book" didn't change
anything.

If you selecte the option your Address Book should be available now. You can
set it as default in Tools-> Address Book and in the Address Book; Tools->
Options
