A couple of days ago, my computer crashed and I had to use system restore. Of course it wiped out everyting I had on it and brought it back to factory. My computer came preinstalled with xp home. I right away went online to get the microsoft updates, etc. When I went online, the machine immediately started saying "remote procedure call service" and shut down windows. I encountered two problems that day: 1) the shutting down of the computer. 2) the computer wouldn't shut down all of the way. It wouldn't let me do a soft boot either from the on/off button on the computer or the control/alt/delete compand. The only way I could fix it was by cutting the electric power to it. Well, through you guys, I found out the first problem was the worm blaster. Since then, I got the patches and all of the updates. However, I still have the second problem of it not shutting down right. Note; this started happening right after the system restore and before any additional software was loaded. The only hardware currently connected to it is the printer. That was previously connected before I had to do the system restore and I never had a problem. Help!

You might scan the guidance the link listed below for some
suggestions. Shutdown problems can be tricky and it takes some time
to sort out. Good luck.

Traxless - When I posted yesterday, I took your advice and went to that link. That's where I found out what I need. The problem is that I can get the patch out of microsofts archives. Any suggestion? cg

You can go to restore to reverse it...Do so then goto RUN located in "Start"
tab click RUN ...type in msconfig and click on disable all...restart... see
how your system is running. then go back to 'RUN" (msconfig) and start
adding start up programs one at a time... and it'll work itself out. ciao
