The movie will not save

I created a movie clip, and while the project saves perfectly, whenever I attempt to save the file as a movie, it does not work. I have tried saving it to the hard dirve, a removable device, in the same folder a the original clip source, on its own... whatever I try gives me a "Windows Movie Maker cannot save the movie to the specified location." File size is far from an issue, the computer is working perfectly, so is it an error within Movie Maker, or am I doing something wrong?

Shawn,

There's a number of things that might be the issue. See the Problem Solving
Can't Save a Movie page of www.papajohn.org

Thanks... it was not compatable with a WMV save format for some reason. DV-AVI format works perfectly, despite being 30 times larger (!!!).

Shawn,

That clue indicates your version of QASF.DLL is at 6.5 and needs upgrading
to version 9.

Issues that would cause this are now starting to be
defined. The first one emerging is running MM2 with a
version 6.5 QASF.DLL file.

Check that your QASF.DLL is version 9.0.0.2980, size -
241,664, dated 12/11/02 - 17:34. It's in the
c:\Windows\System32 folder. A normal install of Movie
Maker 2 should have updated it. If not, you'll need to do
it.

Try another reinstall of MM2 first to upgrade the DLL. If
that doesn't work, an installation of the Windows Media
Encoder package (see the Setup.. Software page for a
link) should. An upgrade of DirectX to version 9.0a or
9.0b might also upgrade the DLL. Some have had success by
simply finding the version 9 DLL on another computer, and
copying it over the one in the System32 folder. If your
computer doesn't accept the new file as a valid one,
it'll delete it within a second and refresh it with
another copy of the one it wants to use.
